Wallace fountains, a meeting of heritage and contemporary art

A meeting of heritage and contemporary art

Today, David David has the honour of collaborating with GHM to reinterpret these historic fountains through a unique and original work. Blending contemporary art with cultural heritage, the artist adds his signature touch by integrating his iconic figure holding a glass—symbolising conviviality and modernity.

Wallace Fountains: a Parisian heritage icon

Since 1872, Wallace fountains have stood as emblematic symbols of Parisian heritage. Born of the generosity of Richard Wallace, these fountains grace the streets of Paris and beyond, offering timeless elegance and access to drinking water. Produced by GHM (Générale d’Hydraulique et de Mécanique), they sit alongside other iconic works such as the lighting of the Champs-Élysées, the Alexandre III Bridge, and the Guimard metro entrances.

“It’s a childhood dream—I’ve been a fan of these fountains since my twenties. Back then, I never imagined I’d one day collaborate on such a project."

The Wallace Fountain on the international stage

Unveiled as a world premiere at the prestigious Art Miami Context fair, this exceptional piece marks a significant milestone in David David’s career. This historic and unique partnership perfectly embodies the dialogue between tradition and innovation, offering a new artistic vision of these urban treasures—and propelling them onto the international stage.
