A quest for authenticity and reflection

David David is a French contemporary sculptor and painter, born in Nancy in 1981 and based in Cannes. A self-taught artist with a strong social commitment, he pushes the boundaries of contemporary expression through works that explore universal themes: willful blindness, materialism, and the need to reconnect with what truly matters.

A recognized sculptor and painter, David David is the creator of Blind, an iconic character featuring a figure with a bucket over its head — a symbol of the willful blindness and excesses of modern society. Through sculptures in bronze, steel or wood, and through vibrant paintings, he invites viewers to reflect on life’s priorities and reconnect with a forgotten authenticity.

David David works across a wide range of materials — bronze, wood, steel, resin, acrylic — to bring his creations to life. Whether carved with a chainsaw or painted in vivid colors, each work tells a story and invites the viewer into a deeper introspection.

In 2024, David David unveiled a contemporary reinterpretation of the Wallace Fountains — Paris’s iconic drinking fountains, a landmark of French heritage since 1872 — in collaboration with the historic GHM foundry. This project inscribes his work within the continuity of French cultural heritage and marks a milestone in the institutional recognition of his practice.

His works are now installed in public spaces across France through several major municipal acquisitions: Result on Allées Jules Guesde in Toulouse, Blind at the Port Vauban in Antibes, Seek at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, and Résilience at the Refuge de la Loze in Méribel. His monumental installations have been exhibited in prestigious locations such as La Chèvre d’Or in Èze (Relais & Châteaux), the Old Course of Mandelieu, and the Centre Pompidou-Metz. His collaborations include Mercedes, Hermès, and the Relais & Châteaux group.

David David is now developing Plainness, a new cycle marked by a more stripped-down, raw aesthetic — where volume outweighs detail, posture speaks louder than expression, and material stands on its own. This new body of work was presented at Art Miami in December 2025 and is represented by the Galerie Goth in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.

His character Blind, with its face concealed by a bucket, is a powerful metaphor for the excesses and superficialities of our time. This universal symbol transcends individual identities, allowing anyone to identify with it and reflect on their own life.
